i am still messing with css [seriously, i am i am] as 2009 is the year i catch up and make a complete site in css while using dreamweaver instead of my trusted GoLive. at the end of each month i will cap the css file and leave it for that month and continue playing with it for the next month. by the end of the year i should have a css flip book.
to get to the rest of the blog, go to the home page, go to the index page, or just crack the bit in the url of /YY-MM.html where YY is the year and mm is the month, just as you see it now
and still life is busier.
what prompted me to blog again? i was tired of all the music i have at work and went to youtube to listen to some old stuff [only place to find big pig songs, or some primitives, or watch snow patrol's video for spiderman which is oh-so-lovely] and ran across paul young's «common people» which i have mentioned before. yes, it is a horrible video and the tracks are off [don't believe me? try it] but there is a full orchestra and choir backing him.
this is where i say «you really have to experience it» to feel it. the video does a horrible job, but it instantly took me back to earlier this summer in san diego. we were walking around balboa park [beautiful in its own right] and my dad wandered over to join us. he had been upstairs listening to a high school orchestra. really? practicing now, in early summer? i had to go see.
it was no «high school» orchestra — it was a freaking full on orchestra of close to 200 of the best musicians in the san diego area. i spent my time in band, and these guys were talented, as was the conductor who was both driven and personable. we sat and listened for 20 minutes and i lost track of how many laps chills made on my spine. not only did the sound envelope me, but it was coming from all sides. how often to you get to sit 6 feet behind the horns for a driving piece?
pick up that same feeling and carry it back 5 or 6 years to the gathering. i had no part to play in the song selection or process other than making it feel right, playing off the infamous matt poling's lead. matt has ruined me yet again with music. matt does not neccesarily sing a song. i believe saying that he bleeds out the song may be a better phrase. the song IS him. so what did he do this time? matt is churning away, all of us caught up as one and then 70+ members of a choir slowly fill in the stage behind him. i knew it was coming, but it wasn't enough preparation as they all swayed and clapped behind matt and the band. it wasn't too much longer when they pulled off the cap and let it loose — they all joined in with what felt like a roar of voices and it was good. real good. like perfect good, with no more good to be had.
so, if there is an experience like that to be had with music, i'll pay to be there. cds, videos, tv — they don't do it justice.
it is a perfectly good reason to return to blogging, even though my time has become increasingly scarce.
last nights dream was fun and brightly colored. i was in norway and at some sort of cliff encircled cove, but there were lit caves and nice walkways for cliffside cafés and businesses. i walked along for a while, chasing after one of our girls when they were young, trying to keep them from falling in the frigid waters. the water was really dark and deep, which was sort of odd. later i was in someones home and their norwegian kids music was great. what made the story great was that i believed i had texted photos to everyone from my phone. when i woke up in the morning, my first thoughts were, «oh crap, i need to text everyone and tell them to delete any photos i sent to them from norway as i had not really been there.» so i did.
samson and delilah — what was was up with those two? samson, super strong via God, gets asked by his girlfriend delilah, «what makes you so strong?» he answers «if you tie me up i lose my strength.» he then wakes up to a room full of bad guys and whoa — he is tied up. he snaps them and whups up on the ambush. she asks him again, she ties his hair into a loom as that is the next trick, he wakes up and whups up on another ambush [supposedly — they never really say there was a fight].
samson already sleeps around a lot, finding prositutes and he has a cro-magnon view of life:
He said, "It was tit for tat. I only did to them what they did to me."
what i really want to know was samson that dumb? really, he wakes up to a room full of kryptonite that his girlfriend keeps setting out for him and he still gets it on with her? the conclusion a few of us had is that it was more: she was freaking hot and did things that have long been since forgotten by the women of this world. she had him TIGHT, for whatever reason. betcha that won't come up in a lecture.
read the craziness of samson in the message. it makes for one crazy story. that boy was unreal. even so, i think that boy would have been a hoot to run with. he ran judged israel for 20 years. judged. him. what were his verdicts, «punch him in the face» or «let me sleep with his sister»? i have no idea.
